Jennifer Lopez thanked everyone who 'lied' to her in MTV awards speech

Jennifer Lopez' thank-you list for her MTV award speech looked a little different

as she thanked those who "lied" to her in the past as well as those who told her she wouldn't make it.

Lopez, 52, was honored with the generation award during Sunday night's MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The award goes to "beloved actors whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names," according to MTV.

Lopez said during her speech. "You’re only as good as the people that you work with."

As an actor, I’m not any of the women that I’ve played,

I want to thank the people who gave me joy. And the ones who broke my heart.

I want to thank true love. And I want to thank the way that I lied to myself, because that’s how I knew that I had to grow.
