Viola Davis Trains For War In Epic ‘The Woman King’ Trailer
In the movie "The Woman King," Viola Davis assumes the role of the queen-leader of a band of female African warriors who battle colonisers to defend the Kingdom of Dahomey.
In her next action movie The Woman King, which hits theatres on September 16, Viola Davis, 56, is at war.
The suspenseful trailer, which features Viola's General Nanisca, the head of the Dahomey Amazons, a squad of female African warriors, was published by Sony Pictures Entertainment on July 6.
The Woman King also stars Adrienne Warren, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Lashana Lynch
Although Lupita Nyong'o was cast, she left the project before it started. The movie's director is Gina Prince-Bythewood
The story was written by Maria Bello, and she and Dana Stevens collaborated on the screenplay.
Producer Cathy Schulman previously said of the movie, "The Woman King will depict one of history's greatest lost stories from the real world in which we live
when an army of African warrior women fought off enslavement, colonialism, and inter-tribal conflict to unify a nation.
